Tanglewood Returns in 2021

We are so excited for what this year has in store. After a year of many closings in 2020, no doubt you too are ready to get out and enjoy all that the Berkshires have to offer. In addition to scenic mountains, a rugged coast, fascinating history, beautiful art, and professional theater, the Berkshires are well-known for fantastic musical performances. Located just 5 minutes from our Inn, Tanglewood returns to the Berkshires in 2021 for a wonderful season of live music.

Note from BSO:
The Boston Symphony will not have an official word on the status of the 2021 Tanglewood season until late winter/early spring. An organization-wide planning process is underway to help determine what activities might be able to take place this summer. Over the next couple of months, the orchestra will continue to evaluate the most up-to-date protocols in place. It is our hope that we will be able to present a season of live performances with audiences at Tanglewood this summer, though the safety and well-being of everyone involved will always remain our highest priority in our decision-making process on when and how to reopen the festival.

Tanglewood History

During the winter of 1936, the Tappan family estate, including its buildings and 210 acres of lawns and meadows, was gifted to Serge Koussevitzky and the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Shortly thereafter, the Koussevitzky Music Shed was built to protect performers from the elements – where the BSO and live concerts are still held today. Since then additional studios, music halls and acreage have been added to this popular summer attraction. Tanglewood has grown from nearly 100,000 visitors each year in 1941, to over 350,000 today, representing a big part of the Berkshire experience for residents and visitors alike.
